空間現代3年振り新作リリース。バンド単独としては〈Editions Mego / deologic Organ〉より発表した『Palm』に続く3年振りの新作は、活動の拠点である京都の空間現代のスタジオ兼ライブハウス「外」にて録音され、ミックスまでメンバーが手掛けた初の作品であり、レーベル「Soto」として初レコード・リリース。ジャケット写真は村田啓、デザインは盟友・石塚俊。
Kukangendai is a three-piece band from Japan. They released their self-titled debut album in 2009, following it up with Kukangendai 2 in 2012. In 2013, the band launched the Kukangendai Monthly Remixes series, which invited a string of artists, including Zs and Mark Fell, to produce remixes of the band’s work. The series was later compiled into the album Remixes in 2015.
In 2016, the band opened their own studio-cum-venue, Soto, in Kyoto, moving their activities from Tokyo to Kyoto.
2018 saw the vinyl release of Zureru, a collaborative album by Kukangendai and Ryuichi Sakamoto. In 2019, Palm – the band’s first non-collaborative studio album in seven years – was released on Ideologic Organ, a sublabel of Editions Mego headed by Sunn O)))’s Stephen O’Malley.
Collaborative projects to date include Rap Phenomenon, an album produced with rap group Moe and ghosts, live performances with Keino Haiji and with poet Gozo Yoshimasu, and theater productions with the Chiten theater company.
