From a young age Harry Cockbill aka Humble B Flat has been soaking in romantic classical and jazz influences from his mother tinkling on the ivories at home where she taught him to play the Saxophone and Piano. Meanwhile his Dad was blasting out Jazz, Funk, Disco and Soul music in the evenings. Having spent much of his childhood learning the Sax and Piano - taking influence from the like of Bill Evans, Errol Garner, Coleman Hawkins and Ben Webster he then heard his first Hip Hop track. Full Clip - Gang Starr. This was a revolution in the style of music which took his interest, and a passionate love developed for the gritty urban drums, sprinkled with Jazz-lined and Soul-filled Samples. At this point he discovered his first means of producing music on a laptop and searched for the dopest samples to make beats. A few years later he was exposed to a new sound holding the same urban grit and depth. Detroit House & Techno. First listening to ‘Moodymann’s I’m Doing Fine’ was a revolutionary moment. It had the same dusty sounding drums with soulful samples littering the track which was bursting with passion. It wasn’t long before his set up evolved - with the MPC 2000 at the centre of his home studio, with synths, a desk and an ever-growing record collection to follow. The Harnessed the Wind EP is the first from Humble B Flat - but hold tight cos he’s at work
