She had retired from making music for the past few years, but kept in frequent contact with close friends BLACK MADONNA and RUSSELL E.L. BUTLER, and with this hook-up release on 〈NAIVE〉 as the trigger, she recently returned to DJing at a gig by Chicago ambient producer FOREST MANAGEMENT — the first vinyl release from ILANA BRYNE, a female producer who has been active in the Midwest scene since the '90s. "Dub Box Medicine" (sample1) is a trancey four-to-the-floor cut with meta-jungle busy offbeat snares winding around hard-edged, spacious pads, plus ragga vocals dropped in at the breakdown — very cool! "Feelin' Myself" (sample2) pairs crisp house chords with dubby sub-bass and twinkling electronics for a psychedelic result, and there's also "Mmm Mmm Mmm (Ciel's Sigh O' The Times Rework)" (sample3), in which CIEL — a member of the DISCWOMAN crew, whose single on 〈COASTAL HAZE〉 is also superb — remixes the jazzy, laid-back breakbeat track "Mmm Mmm Mmm"!
