Jose Roberto Trio

Format

LP 3790 JPY

The legendary 1966 debut from the late José Roberto Bertami, leader of Azymuth — top-notch bossa/samba jazz.

The late José Roberto Bertami composed, arranged and played for a roster of legends including Elis Regina, George Duke, Sarah Vaughan, Jorge Ben, Eddie Palmieri, Milton Nascimento and Flora Purim. Here is the birth of his style, taking the piano jazz trio sound devised by Ahmad Jamal and Bill Evans and giving it a Brazilian twist — and this is the definitive example. Recorded with essentially the same lineup as OS TATUIS, the band he formed as a teenager around the same time. Amazingly, he was just 20 years old at the time??? So the origins of the Azymuth sound lay in this kind of high-quality, serene piano work — beautifully mellow. Reissued, of course, by FAR OUT. (Original Japanese text by Shhhhh)
