From Psychic Hotline, the North Carolina label run by Sylvan Esso, comes the Psychic Hotline Singles series, which has also featured Sam Gendel. The A-side covers "Province," TV On The Radio's 2006 track featuring guest David Bowie. Eric Slick handles the production and joins on vocals alongside Bartees Strange, the much-buzzed-about artist picked up by 4AD, and Chicago art-rock duo Ohmme. Ever since Sufjan remarked that he likes writing in counterpoint, US indie seems to have entered a golden age in which experimental elements are transformed into pure entertainment. On the B-side, Anjimile, who records for Father/Daughter Records, delivers an absolutely stunning cover (sample1) of "Ever New," one of the very finest songs by Beverly Glenn-Copeland, the legendary transgender artist rediscovered and beloved in recent years.
