This album by Argentina's UJI, who has also performed in Japan, comes via his old home ZZK Records. Where Nicola Cruz headed off into techno/electro territory, UJI instead pushes deeper into his roots — South American Latin sounds and folklore — and this record is the crystallization of that. The press materials describe this work as a film, and it is indeed cinematic (his previous unit Lulacruza was also filmed by Vincent Moon). Perhaps because of his background as a researcher of ethnic music and his time living nomadically, this feels less like an extension of ZZK or electric folklore and more like an evolution into a new strain of ethno-ambient/new age. Essential for tribal dance fans, but it also works as a listening record, carrying real originality and a contemporary feel. A superb work! (Original Japanese text by Shhhhh)
