Formed in 1996 by schoolmates Kieran Hebden, Adem Ilhan, and Sam Jeffers. They were astonishingly prolific early on, putting out 10 singles and 4 albums in just four years. Among them, "Happiness" ('01) is an innovative work blending electronic exploration, hip-hop-style production, experimental rock arrangements, psychedelia, and nostalgia \u2014 a classic that widened the field for artists working between rock and electronic music, so much so that countless acts later followed a similar approach. (Around this same time, as if by coincidence, ANTICON was sparking a comparable movement in underground hip-hop \u2014 it was an exciting era.)
