Restock has arrived! Celebrating the LP release!! Kim Oki, the star of Korea's current jazz scene, whose recent Japan shows were fantastic! Pharoah Sanders filtered through contemporary ambient and environmental music (with an Asian accent). We'd always wondered why there was no vinyl, but thanks to the efforts of Bayon Production, it's finally happened!
Though called "jazz," it's not the abstract kind — the ear is met throughout with the pleasure and overall smoothness of the post-ambient generation, while crossing over into modern classical, post-ambient, hip-hop and soul: this is post-2010 jazz, where simple melodies and "song" remain after passing through and sublimating a range of genres. This feels like the Asian version of that same phenomenon... From the signature track "Cotard's Syndrome" sample1 onward, every cut is simply superb.
