The debut album by shinobue player Rai Tateishi, a member of goat, produced by Koshiro Hino — "Presence" — is out on NAKID! An improvisational work using multiple wind instruments, including his main instrument the shinobue, plus shakuhachi and Irish flute. Captured with a distinctive recording approach in which you can hear breath, tonguing, and even the sound of his fingering, it was cut live in one take with no overdubs. An overwhelming sense of presence that puts the listener face to face with the work in its purest form.

The first album from shinobue player Rai Tateishi — formerly a member of the Sado-based taiko performing arts ensemble Kodo, and currently active in "goat," the rhythm ensemble formed around Koshiro Hino (aka YPY) — has arrived! A solo improvisation recorded, edited, mixed and produced by Hino. The stunning immediacy created by one-take recording with no overdubs or edits, paired with a delicate mix, expands on improvised jazz and modern minimalism to reach the territory of electroacoustic and musique concrète work. He builds rhythm largely through tonguing and touch, while on "Presence III" (sample 3) he takes up the khene, a traditional instrument of northeastern Thailand and Laos, to grapple with harmony — exploring the full potential of wind instruments throughout.
