The late Edo period. The first installment of the “Tawoyaka Branches” series, inspired by the Misho-ryu school of ikebana, which was championed by Osaka-born ikebana master Misho-sai Ippo.
The appearance varies depending on the fiber being dyed, and even the same plant yields different colors depending on the season. “Plant-based dyeing” is said to make it nearly impossible to reproduce the exact same color twice. We used the plant “cochineal” and created each piece one by one in collaboration with dye artist Sophora Phylla Lab, applying a collage-like approach to both the design and the dyeing process. Since the dyes are derived from natural sources, the gradual fading that occurs over time is part of the charm. We hope you’ll cherish this as a one-of-a-kind piece, unique to you.
