The record is built around traditional forms: bambuco from the northern coastal region of Esmeraldas (an Andean/Pacific-coast song, dance and rhythm style), bomba del Chota from Imbabura province (the Afro-Ecuadorian song, dance and drum-rhythm style of the Chota Valley), and sanjuanito (a signature song, dance and rhythm style of the Ecuadorian Andes). It also incorporates Ujaj and Anets, the sacred prayers of the Shuar people, along with rituals surrounding the ceremonial ingestion of ayahuasca and the tsantsa (shrunken head).
All of this unfolds in a mix laced with electronica and global bass.
