It’s already been three years since their groundbreaking previous release… Here’s the second installment of the major compilation project from PRÍNCIPE, the heart of the Lisbon ghetto sound! The crew “DJS DI GUETTO”—comprising key figures who shaped the scene, such as DJ MARFOX, NK, NERVOSO, FOFUXO, PAUSAS & JESSE—is back. This collection features unreleased tracks handpicked from the archives dating back to 2007—when Batida and Tarraxho first began experimenting with the genre—and showcases how these styles have evolved to the present day. It’s a rare sound, packed with raw, unpolished frameworks and upbeat arrangements that exude youthful energy.

While the first release—a compilation of tracks from the label’s inaugural Kuduro compilation, “Vol. 1”—generated a huge buzz, this new release features tracks unearthed directly from the crew’s archives. And the majority of the tracks are previously unreleased tracks produced in 2007! From DJ NK’s masterpiece “Semba Do Zagaza”—a unique fusion of UKF and Digital Steppers—to the minimal, driving kuduro track “Macongos Graves” by DJ MARFOX and DJ NERVOSO. As with the first release, this album captures the raw, visceral sound of the prototype Príncipe-style kuduro—a style that’s now on the verge of becoming an academic subject—achieved primarily using the old-school drum loop software FruityLoops. This is a precious release that luxuriously compiles and brings together these tracks. As always, each copy features a one-of-a-kind, hand-drawn back cover. (Original Japanese text by Akie)
