MuchaMuchaM, the Fukuoka-based Asian exotic band now highly acclaimed worldwide, has released their new 7-inch single, “The Song of the Rice Weevil / The Rice Weevil’s Dub”—their first new release in about two years—via EXHUME EXHUME PRODUCTION! ! Utter bliss! Kagoshima folk songs with a tropical dub twist.
Track List

This track transforms “Chawanmushi no Uta,” a folk song from Kagoshima Prefecture—the hometown of newly joined vocalist Aomi Setoguchi—into a MuchaMuchaM-style tropical-oriental exotica reggae, featuring an arrangement reminiscent of the monster riddim “STALAG” by Sister Nancy/ "STALAG"—a monster rhythm reminiscent of tracks by Sister Nancy and Ban Ban—combined with her sweet, soft vocals to create a unique, laid-back, dreamy Balearic dubwise atmosphere on Side A "Chawanmushi no Uta" (sample 1) is fantastic, but Side B’s "Chawanmushi no Dub" (sample 2)—meticulously woven with a deep, swaying groove while being madly dub-ified—is also perfectly balanced, leaving you with a blissful grin.
This is the first single released from “Min’yō ROMANTICA,” a mini-album by composer Sato Shogo that compiles folk songs from all over Japan where he has lived! I’m really looking forward to the mini-album as well.
