Last year's album 'Konoma' drew high praise from media and listeners both in Japan and abroad, becoming a work that epitomizes Takuro Okada's musical explorations. "Still Water" is his first physical release since 'Konoma,' hitting stores nationwide starting Record Day 1!
　This release collects music written for the campaign for the MT2, a new footwear model developed by TOKYO DESIGN STUDIO New Balance. Updating the craftsmanship New Balance has cultivated over its 120-year history for contemporary living, the model features barefoot-like lightness, high breathability, and an enveloping fit, developed as a shoe that seamlessly bridges everyday life and the outdoors. Okada drew inspiration from the product and wrote this material for it.
　The A-side, "Still Water," features Shoei Ikeda (flute) and is built on a minimal ensemble pared down to the barest number of notes, incorporating folky and Afro-music elements. Recorded from improvised performances and captured to analog tape, it carries shifting sonic ripples like the surface of still water, with generous open space.
　The B-side, "Dohman Sehman," starts from a vintage funk mood while weaving in a melodic sensibility and folkloric resonance akin to Japanese min'yo and kayokyoku. Participating musicians include a lineup of sharp young players: Kei Matsumaru (alto sax), Mei Katsumaru (tenor sax), Yuma Koda (Wurlitzer / Farfisa), Yuka Konishi (bass), and Hayate Ebihara (drums). A spatial mix evoking dub techniques and a heavyweight rhythm section generate a striking, powerful groove.
　"Still Water," brimming with serene space, and "Dohman Sehman," charged with muscular groove: through these two contrasting pieces, the record reveals the widening scope of Takuro Okada's work since 'Konoma.'
