The second release from Ho_Tep, a sub-label of EGLO—the label home to FLOATING POINTS—features LETHERETTE, a UK duo whose track was also included on the GILLES compilation. Although they’ve contributed to other artists’ works through remixes and the like, this appears to be their first (?) release under the LETHERETTE name, so they’re an artist I’m not very familiar with. They aren’t exactly doing anything groundbreaking, but this is great. “Dance Brace” (sample 1) features sharp, hard-hitting beats with expansive top layers, and the sense of style in chopping and removing vocal samples is excellent. In contrast, “Furth & Myre” (sample 2) has a rounded beat and a warm, chopped-up sample sound. “In July Focus” (sample 3) features superb sample looping and selection. Every other track also showcases a keen sense of sample selection and sampling—they’re all high-quality beats that make me look forward to future releases.
