"Producer, arranger, instrumentalist and label owner Greg Carmichael worked alongside such well-known names in underground disco/boogie as Patrick Adams and LeRoy Burgess, yet he remains one of the lesser-known figures on that scene. He was, however, a crucial behind-the-scenes player in dance music, and he deserves the same recognition given to those he collaborated with. Together with Adams, Carmichael was the driving force behind the Universal Robot Band, Inner Life, Phreek and Bumblebee Unlimited. Each of these outfits delivered several club classics that have remained house DJ favorites decades after their original release ("Dance and Shake Your Tamborine," "Barely Breaking Even," "Weekend," "Love Bug," "Moment of My Life" and "I'm Caught Up" being among the most popular). Bumblebee Unlimited's singles came out on Carmichael's Red Greg label, while Inner Life's 'I'm Caught Up (In a One Night Love Affair)' was originally issued on his TCT imprint before Prelude bought the rights and sent it to the top of countless club playlists. Carmichael also worked closely with Burgess on projects such as Convertion's "Let's Do It" and Logg's "I Know You Will" and "Dancing Into the Stars," resulting in some of the finest disco/boogie ever made. Carmichael's only real taste of the mainstream came in 1991, when Cathy Dennis's "Touch Me (All Night Long)" — a cover of a Fonda Rae song he co-wrote with Adams — stormed the pop charts.
