The third installment of the soul remake series 〈REGRADED〉 by MIDLAND, the UK house prodigy since the GARAGE era! It’s amazing how perfectly this mysterious ghetto house beat meshes with the charm of Gladys’s vocals. Highly recommended. Fans of FOUR TET will definitely love this.
Track List

Following the first release, “Double Feature,” and the second release, HUBIE DAVIDSON’s “Sanctified”—which became one of the biggest hits of 2015—the third release in the 〈REGRADED〉 series features MIDLAND. The beat is taken from the rare Trinidad boogie track “Rockin’ Poppin’ Full Tilting,” while the vocal sample comes from Gladys Knight and the Pips’ “Neither One of Us”—a track that DOMU once used as a sample for one of his releases and which is a personal favorite of mine. The original is a deep soul classic that captures the subtle emotional turmoil of a couple facing a breakup. The matter-of-fact looping beat, the boosted bass, the ruddy kick, the unique structure of the shifting groove, and the depth of Gladys’s vocals all stand out and are truly moving. That’s its charm. The B-side is the instrumental “Vigilante.” This track, too, is quintessentially British. It’s one of the top contenders for EP of the year. (Original Japanese text by Saito)
