"The Birth Of A Child," the first record released in a tiny pressing in 1988 by ODE-OMORE OSARENREN — a musician encountered by chance during a several-week stay in Benin, Nigeria last summer — gets a remastered reissue from DIG THIS WAY, a new label run by an Italian couple digging deep into Afro sounds! Produced by KIMAYO, who has also played on recordings by PETER OMOAKA, still active in spreading the word about highlife music, the record features "Ukhiokhio," an obscure boogie number with adorable, cheerful horn arrangements, call-and-response choruses and miraculous synthesizer all balanced in an indescribable lo-fi recording; "Iyereghe," led by dreamy whistling with a perfect groove; and the closer "Enotiomwan," with its astonishing overdubs and collage work — four tracks in all!
