The long-awaited new album from ANDY STOTT, who—alongside DEMDIKE STARE—has been a leading figure on the prestigious MODERN LOVE label and a pioneer of the European dance scene. Tracks like “Dismantle”—driven by 70+ BPM beats and melancholic synthesizers—and “Take,” with its irregular pauses, are particularly notable, embodying a dub-inspired soundscape and the aesthetics of slow tempo. Then again, on “0L9,” vocal samples and snare drums create a sudden house bounce that distorts the listener’s sense of time. As you can tell from the two-12-inch-vinyl format and the track titles themselves, this is a major work that reconstructs and reexamines the current dance scene—from grime to dub techno—a scene that has also played a part in shaping the artist’s own sound.
