2025 Repress! FOUR TET’s new album—their first in about two and a half years—has arrived! A reimagining of the “folk-tronica” sound that shook the UK electronic music scene in 2001, combined with the adoption of the minimal house format. I’m thrilled by these edgy sounds—captured only in this transitional period—that seem on the verge of breaking free from the dance floor.

FOUR TET, one of the leading producers in contemporary dance and electronic music—whose releases on 〈TEXT〉 consistently become club anthems—presents an album that marks a return to the pastoral electronica he once pioneered, or perhaps a liminal work on the very brink of that full return. Tracks like “School” (sample 1), where shimmering synthesizers weave sentimental melodies, and “baby” (sample 2)—which features rhythmic snippets of diva Ellie Goulding’s vocals— "baby" (sample 2)—featuring the dreamlike upper registers reminiscent of his early 2000s work—the only difference from those days is the underlying dance beat. The album also includes "Teenage Birdsong," which was released as a lead single. Dance music on the brink of a full return to electronica—don’t miss it! (Original Japanese text by Akie)
