To be precise, this is a rework of previously unreleased tracks from the dance music side of The Honeymoon Killers, featuring Véronique Vincent, which was originally announced in 2014. Of course, it’s not just a collection of standard dance edits. The lineup includes Finland’s Jaakko Eino Kalevi, Toulouse’s quirky Forever Pavot, Stereolab’s Léticia, Lena Willikens, Burnt Friedman (whose name I’m thrilled to see here), HELLO SKINNY Capitol K—a favorite of mine at Newton— and AQUASERGE—which includes members of Tame Impala—among others. Isn’t this a fantastic release featuring a lineup of high-caliber pop and intelligent dance music artisans from France, Belgium, and across Europe? It makes perfect sense—given that they founded CRAMMED DISC, the mecca of world music—and just looking at the roster expands your musical horizons. While there are some dancefloor-oriented tracks, each artist has truly brought their own unique personality to the table—as if responding to a challenge—resulting in a cohesive concept album.
