Cool, languid piano ambient to electronics — and the organic dance tracks built around cold, mechanical drum machines are just as compelling. From SEANCE CENTRE, a label on the front lines of electronic music excavation, comes a collaborative EP by JOSEPH SHABASON — a member of Canada-based synth-pop band DIANA — and VIBRANT MATTER!

From "Speculative Ethnography," the series by SEANCE CENTRE, the label that began with BEVERLY GLENN-COPELAND and has gone on to reissue obscure new age/electronic disco from the likes of MJ LALLO and A-TEAM. The debut work from JOSEPH SHABASON & VIBRANT MATTER, a unit formed within the band DIANA, who also release on esteemed indie-rock labels such as JAGJAGUWAR! Created through repeated meetings and remote recording during pandemic life. "Rust" (sample2) drops a monotone drum machine into synth ambient/electronics cloaked in a dark atmosphere, while "Winterhaze" (sample1) takes the opposite tack, softly finished with organic machine percussion. "Ah Bah Dee" (sample3) lets a monophonic synth ring out with a wistful ache. Distinctly Canadian new age healing synthesis. (Original Japanese text by Akie)
