Flamenco music by Spain's gitanos (Gypsies). The luster and eerie allure woven from palmas (handclaps), guitarra (guitar) and cante (song) has its roots on the street — this is street music. Many Gypsies are said to have originally come from India, and you can sense an emotional thread running back from there. Its affinity with what we'd call dance music is perhaps more distant than, say, cumbia or Latin music, but savor that very "distance." Every track is dazzling and conjures up scenery. Features Niño Ricardo, Sabicas, and Manuel Vallejo — awarded the "Golden Key" of cante flamenco and nicknamed the "voice of the nightingale" for his beautiful singing — among others.
