Piano music that drifts in the space between Erik Satie and Debussy, the Coptic (Old Egyptian) liturgical music of the Ethiopian church, and Ethiopian traditional music, arriving at pure stillness. And what a newly compiled edition it is, from Emahoy, the Ethiopian nun!

A compilation CD released on the world music powerhouse 〈BUDA〉, later followed by an LP edition on MISSISSIPPI RECORDS that became a super long-seller. Whether you look to Ethiopia, or anywhere across Africa, South America, or Asia, there is no other piano music like this. Gentle and calming. It's classical, yet it can also be heard as ambient — Emahoy is loved across eras and genres. Active since the 1960s, she reportedly donated the proceeds from her recordings to orphanages. 180g vinyl, with a jacket modeled on the 1972 artwork and sheet music written out by the artist herself. You can feel the label's dedication here.

March 27, 2023. She passed away at the age of 99. May she rest in peace. (Original Japanese text by Shhhhh)
