WEB, also known as Takuya Sugimoto, has been releasing music under various aliases since the mid-1990s on 〈Syzygy Records〉, a pioneering independent techno label based in Fukuoka, A compilation of tracks by WEB/Dja-zz was released on 12-inch vinyl by the prestigious UK label 〈FATCAT RECORDS〉 as the inaugural release of their new sub-label. 〈Soup-Disk〉, a label emblematic of Japan’s DIY music scene—encompassing electronic music, IDM, and hip-hop—run by Masaaki Hara; 〈VIola〉, a sub-label of 〈360° Records〉 run by Taro Nijigama; and 〈Spotlight Records〉, run by Osaka’s Matsu & Take—which also featured artists like Ilrime and Yabe Milk. He has left behind a unique body of work that stands apart from dancefloor-oriented techno. Thanks to the efforts of Dynamo Dreesen, a fan of his music, 〈ACIDO〉 released “The Sound There” in 2020 from an archive of unreleased tracks, followed by “another perspective e.p.” in 2022. This release is the second installment of the 12-inch two-part remix series “The House Of Web - reworked,” which also features previously unreleased tracks from that archive. Side A features DJ Sotofett of Sex Tags Mania, a group based in Norway and Berlin that continues to embody the alternative independent scene. It opens with a superb mix of electro and acid breakbeat, followed by computer funk featuring a low-bit melody by Dynamo Dresen & SJ Tequila, and a remix by DJ Gizzard—a pseudonym of Nozo, head of Tokyo’s DISKOMO, who has close ties with both Sotofett and Dresven.
