From Yokkaichi’s *Rockatansky Records*—which we’ve had customers bring directly to our store—comes this LP by Wolf Eyes, the Detroit DIY experimental band led by Nate Young, a label that continues to release countless titles, including cassettes and handmade CD-Rs. Detroit and Yokkaichi. A rich history of music scenes in industrial regions. The connection between the two is also fascinating.
Track List

Formed in the ’90s, Wolf Eyes—led by Nate Young, often hailed as the “Emperor of U.S. Noise”—has continued to evolve and perform for over a quarter-century. They have continued to release countless works, including cassettes and handmade CD-Rs, and have garnered attention with two releases on Disciples—a subsidiary of Warp Records—as well as releases on Hanson, the label run by former member Aaron Dilloway. Following Aaron Dilloway’s appearance as part of a Rockatansky Records project, Wolf Eyes is reportedly set to embark on a tour in February. (Saito)
Marking their 25th anniversary, this is the most aggressive album of the past decade—the culmination of the group’s exploration of a duo format since 2017 and a musical style heavily reliant on Nate Young’s handmade Duber Filter, which he arrived at after experimenting with various pieces of equipment. Nate Young’s simple, tight drum patterns intertwine with the feedback-driven electronics emanating from the Duber Filter, and the intertwining of John Olson’s primitive, hypnotic feedback and horns all fill the space with Wolf Eyes’ iconic, decadent, gritty, and unsettling atmosphere, while the composed tracks are stripped-down, straightforward, and brimming with a strong live energy. The occasional interludes of concrete noise and the heavy use of echo effects lend a dub-like quality to this post-industrial sound. A 2022 LP reissue on a handmade CD-R with a sleeve, released in a limited edition of 100 copies.
