Thee Sacred Souls got started in San Diego in 2019, when drummer Alex Garcia and bassist Sal Samano — both steeped in lowrider culture since childhood — teamed up with vocalist Josh Lane, who had just moved to the West Coast.
From the instrumental of A1 "Can I Call You Rose?" (sample 1), also featured on their debut 7-inch single, and the sweet soul of A6 "Weak For Your Love," to B1 "Future Lover" with its understated yet steady vocal and gorgeous harmonies, and the heartfelt mellow soul of B3 "For Now" with its mellow guitar work — this was a superb album as a vocal record, but stripped down to backing tracks alone it reigns as a masterpiece instrumental album of Chicano modern soul, its deepened melancholy and nostalgia drifting sweet and mellow through a timeless slumber. 12 tracks in all.
