The style—first showcased in the 1970s on various releases from Flying Dutchman by Lonnie Liston Smith and his band, The Cosmic Echoes—is fully on display in this recording as well. Loren Oden, a singer known for her androgynous vocals and a member of Adrian Younge’s band Venice Dawn, is featured on three tracks, and her spiritual and dramatic vocal performances are simply breathtaking.
