From Be With Records, the Manchester-based reissue specialists, comes a reissue overflowing with love for Manchester United. Edric Connor was a singer active in Trinidad and Tobago as well as a scholar of folklore. He emigrated to Britain, the mother country, in 1944, and is said to have played an important role in spreading Caribbean music and Black culture in the UK. The original was released in 1957 on the independent label Oriole as both a shellac 78 and a 7-inch, and both are hard to come by. The B-side is "Manchester Football Double," sung by Lord Kitchener, who was also spotlighted on Honest Jon's Records' calypso series "London Is The Place For Me." Fitzroy Coleman's Calypso Band provides the backing. This one was originally issued on 78 as well, and the catalogue number dates it to the mid-1950s. Also included on the aforementioned "London Is The Place For Me," it's another classic beloved by Red Devils (Manchester United) supporters and calypso fans alike. (Original Japanese text by Saito)
