Scatting And Computer Incantations For Universal Peace!

Fresh label Turning Points unveil their inaugural release, a 10” by Jolly Snampson. Listeners may have come across Jolly Snampson before under previous moniker Mousse of Butter Sessions, Pelvis Records and Furious Frank’s Mind Dance fame. The new project and perhaps a hint at forthcoming releases of the new depository Turning Points invites us further into the charming and life affirming world of the now Tokyo based label head and Jolly Snampson himself Simon Barry.
Opening piece Scatting For Universal Peace (Thunderbolt Mix) is a snappy house number that features wobbly bass and scit scattin’ that rivals Kim Cattral. With deep, starlight chords track two 青光 (translation – blue/green ray/light) is an elated heavy hitter with an irresistible melody. Turning over to the B side and we’re hit with 無 (translation -Nothing/No Thing) which is a boppy rush of dopamine with bouncy samples and bubbly percussion. The self-titled 10” as a whole Jolly Snampson sees Barry batten down the hatches as an artist, once again proving his ability to compose the purest and most joyful of ear worms.

This release comes to us via 〈10inch Of Pressure〉! It’s the debut release from 〈Turning Points〉, a group that moved from the Australian underground scene to Tokyo to launch their career! From raw, edgy beats to scat vocals with a mysterious energy, moments of silence, and uniquely brilliant synth work—it’s nothing short of genius. The off-key, short-note synth might even remind some listeners of NEWJEANS or “ETA.” The A-side, “Blue Light,” is a low-bit computer world track, while the B-side, “Mu,” which opens with breakbeats and scream chops, is also a masterpiece.
