German minimalism, classical piano, ambient techno... it's as if Nils Frahm's entire archive had been distilled and crystallized into one. We got an advance sample and tried it out at "night" — and sure enough, it was overwhelming. Simple yet romantic, but never giving in to easy sentimentality. Fans of stoic techno and experimental music should give it a listen too. Cutting-edge yet timeless piano music that of course works beautifully for meditation/ambient listening as well. There's a lot of piano music out there these days — Ethiopia's Emahoy, John Carroll Kirby and more — and it's fascinating how different they all are.
Recorded at Nils's own studio inside the famous Funkhaus, where Ryuichi Sakamoto also recorded, using the Klavins M450, the world's largest upright piano. (Original Japanese text by Shhhhh)
