Track List

Get lost in the soothing, laid-back tropical grooves of retro-modern Okinawan pop
Featuring the Yara Families, Shokichi Kina and the Champuru's, Rinsuke Teruya, Mitsuko Sawamura, and more—featuring a total of 14 tracks
A compilation of rare and unique tracks that blend pop songs sung in Okinawa’s native scale with rock and soul grooves. This release is based on the 2003 hit "Ryukyu Rare Groove" and its 2006 sequel, "Ryukyu Rare Groove 2." This renewed edition features a further curated selection from those albums, along with new tracks.
Featuring the Yara Families—who have become the symbol of this series—as well as Okinawan folk rock pioneer Shōkichi Kina, Mitsuko Sawamura, who made the leap from Okinawa to American musical films, and the songs of jazz singer Teiko Saito (Teiko Taira)—who made headlines in 2022 by releasing her debut album at the age of 86—this album features 14 rare tropical groove tracks.
The re-released version of "Ryukyu Rare Groove" is now available on vinyl!
"Ryukyu Rare Groove" is a compilation that became a sensation as more and more people fell in love with its unique groove—a fusion of Okinawan scales and traditional Okinawan music with Western arrangements. "Ryukyu Rare Groove Revisited," a re-release featuring the best selections from the 2003 "Ryukyu Rare Groove" and the 2006 "Ryukyu Rare Groove 2," plus new tracks, is now available on vinyl.
Featuring the Yara Families—the very symbol of this series—as well as Shima-uta rock pioneer Shōkichi Kina, and the vocals of jazz singer Teiko Saito (Teiko Taira)—who made headlines in 2022 by releasing her debut album at the age of 86—this album features 14 rare tropical groove tracks.
Additionally, *Ryukyu Rare Groove Crossover*, a collection of jazz arrangements of Okinawan melodies and folk songs, is being released simultaneously. Centered on Kiyoshi Yamaya’s Okinawan folk song jazz-funk—previously featured on MURO’s “Diggers Dozen” and Tropic Night Records’ “Ryukyu” 7-inch—the album also includes instrumental tracks such as Latin big band jazz by Naoaki Misuna and the Tokyo Cuban Boys.
