A collection of previously unreleased tracks from "Halo" — the current latest album and towering masterpiece by Argentina's truly in-a-class-of-her-own SSW Juana Molina — on a four-track 10-inch. One listen and you'll hear it: quality on another plane entirely.
A collaborative release between Sonamos, the label Juana Molina herself launched, and Uruguay's Little Butterfly.

In the early 2000s music industry, still dominated by the US and UK, she made people conscious of "Argentine music," closed the book on '90s ears for a certain crowd, and you can't help but think that even the emergence of 2010s electric folklore and organic downtempo owes something to her influence. Juana still commands overwhelming support, and this long-awaited release gathers unreleased tracks from the sessions for her 2017 album "Halo."
Mysterious melodies and textures scattered with minimalism, controlled with an eerie aura — that unsettling, singular sensuality is pure Juana. The melodies, the chord sense, the eclecticism: this really is in the lineage of Argentine music.
On her website she notes that "with this record, the story of 'Halo' is finally complete." In short, this is Juana in full earnest. And apparently a new album is due in 2025 as well.
Coming out on the label she founded herself, her intent is clear. As a curtain-raiser for what comes next, it's a perfect release. (Original Japanese text by Shhhhh)
