LP ---- JPY

An album considered a legendary work of “Gwoka,” the traditional music rooted in the identity of the Caribbean island of Guadeloupe. This self-produced 1979 album—Luc-Hubert Séjor’s sole release, for which he invested his entire fortune and spent just one day in the studio—has been remastered and reissued by *Heavenly Sweetness*. Transcending spiritual and political meanings to evoke a sense of empathy, this album features a deep percussion ensemble connected to nature, beautiful harmonies, and psychedelic keyboards. A groove of spiritual liberation.

There’s a reason this album is considered legendary: Luc-Hubert Séjor is said to have been one of the very first artists to revolutionize the traditional form by incorporating many women into the gwoka chorus. Side A powerfully proclaims the need for Guadeloupeans to maintain their connection to Gwo-ka. Side B depicts the hardships of those brought to Guadeloupe as slaves from Africa, the struggles of young people at the mercy of government policies and economic illusions, and the stories of those returning to the island from Europe.
