Another magnificent reissue project arrives from MATSULI MUSIC, the label that continues its quest to unearth little-known South African jazz-funk and disco hybrids. "Zulu guitar music" served an anti-hero role during the apartheid era, created by storytellers and seasoned musicians alike. Pioneering stars such as ALMON MEMELA established a singular sound, carrying the pastoral resonance of early mbaqanga—their roots—while deftly interpreting country & western, Hawaiian, and other styles.
