Starring Cate Blanchett, Adam Driver, Charlotte Rampling, and Tom Waits, this latest film by Jim Jarmusch is scheduled for release in Japan in 2026. The soundtrack by Jarmusch and Anika—whose creative partnership reportedly began with a chance encounter at a Sacred Bones 15th-anniversary event—is now in stock. With the exception of covers of Jackson Browne’s “These Days” and Dusty Springfield’s “Spooky,” much of the score consists of ethereal, improvised pieces created using a Wurlitzer, electric guitar, and effects pedals—focusing not on explaining the characters or the story, but on the invisible forces that hover around them. “These Days” includes the “Berlin Version,” recorded with a string quartet, and two tracks that Jarmusch has minimally reconstructed from that version. You can sense the exquisite balance between sound and image that Jarmusch has cultivated over the years, and it’s a treat to try to visualize the film based on the music alone until its release.
