This is the third installment in the 〈V.I.R.U.S.〉 collaboration series by Alva Noto and Ryuichi Sakamoto, who lead the global music scene with their unique approach, and the 2006 album *Revep*—which centers on a reimagining of “Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence”—is now available as a long-awaited remastered reissue featuring three bonus tracks.
Track List

Released in 2006, *Revep* is the third collaborative album by German sound artist Carsten Nicolai (also known as Alva Noto) and Japanese musician Ryuichi Sakamoto, and the third installment in the *V.I.R.U.S.* series.
In this collaboration project with its impressionistic atmosphere, the two artists from different generations shared ideas from electronic music as a source of inspiration for new musical structures. Through the five albums in the series—*Vrioon* (2002), *Insen* (2005), *Revep* (2006), *Utp_* (2008), and *Summvs* (2011), they fused electronic and acoustic sounds to explore a meditative soundscape characterized by rich expression, breathing, and precise design. (The title is composed of the initials of the five albums in the series.)
The duo’s collaboration, which began with *Vrioon*, centers in this work on a collaborative arrangement of “Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence”—Sakamoto’s iconic track and the theme song from the 1983 film *Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence*, which featured David Bowie, Takeshi Kitano, and Ryuichi Sakamoto. This album, which deeply moves the listener with its soundscape—a masterful fusion of beautiful piano melodies and exceptional digital sounds—is considered one of the essential works in the duo’s ongoing collaboration.
The reissue includes three new bonus tracks: “City Radieuse,” “Veru 1,” and “Veru 2.” “City Radieuse” was composed for “Cité Radieuse” (2012), an homage to Le Corbusier’s architecture and one of Carsten Nicolai’s short cinematic essay series, “future past perfect.”
The five albums in the “V.I.R.U.S.” series—“Vrioon,” “Insen,” *Revep*, *Utp_*, and *Summvs*—have been remastered by Calyx Mastering and will be reissued sequentially by around fall 2022, each featuring additional bonus tracks. (A limited-edition box set designed to hold the reissues is also scheduled for release in November.)
The CD packaging for the reissues features a special-sized paper sleeve measuring 18 cm in height by 12.5 cm in width.
