The beginning of last summer saw the release of "Sad Piano House," the first new Daphni release in three years, and the first real move under the Daphni moniker in some time, aside from the Sofia Kourtesis collaboration "Unidos," which traces its roots back to Cherry's "Cloudy" and a remix by Kelbin. "Sad Piano House," with its sinuous, distorted piano, continues to resonate as an intoxicating dance floor anthem as it is played on the floor by Snaith himself and numerous DJs.

In the period between his previous work as Daphni and "Butterfly," Dan Snaith produced and released the album "Honey" under the name Caribou. On this album, the Daphni sense of immediacy and dance-floor orientation permeated Caribou's music more than ever before. This blurring of boundaries came to fruition in the lead track, "Waiting So Long (feat. Caribou).

At first glance, the credits may seem surprising, but both of these names are Snaith's own, and this is the first song he feels "belongs" under both names. It became a collaboration.

"Butterfly" has a strong affinity with Daphni's first album, "Jiaolong," but also shows off all the diversity and exploration that makes Snaith such a compelling DJ today. Functional dance tracks are juxtaposed with more quirky and experimental compositions, all of which are recouped into a floor experience.
