We’ve received a contemporary chanson masterpiece that strikes at the very core—pure and distinct from so-called postmodernism—and is reminiscent of the early 1970s trend of intuitive experimentation in the absence of established conventions! A collaborative project by MAURICIO AMARANTE and MARINE DEBILLY CERISIER of the French avant-garde music collective RADIKAL SATAN. They experiment with chanson through cutting-edge arrangements, creating a sound that is surreal yet deeply human.

With an experimental approach distinct from the era that deconstructed chanson through a postmodern/meta lens starting in the ’90s, she challenged the genre by returning to the formless state of the early ’70s—not by breaking the genre itself, but by confronting it head-on with poetry and avant-garde elements in their raw, unadulterated form. The vocals and live instruments evoke an atmosphere reminiscent of BRIGITTE FONTAINE and ARESKI, creating a warm sound that, while surreal and unstable, remains comforting.
