“Estradas” (2024), a collaboration between Valentina Magaletti—the sharp-edged drumming prodigy whose recent Japan tour with the band Moin (featuring Raime) at Mode and her session with YPY were both spectacular—and Nidia, a member of Lisbon’s *Príncipe* who has undergone a mysterious transformation from kuduro, has been reimagined by left-field geniuses like DJ Plead, Yu Su, and Fergus Jones—along with other left-field geniuses and buzzworthy artists incorporating rhythms from South America, the Middle East, and Africa—have reimagined the album “Estradas (Versions).” The vinyl is now in stock!

Following Estradas’ recognition as one of 2024’s Best Albums by Pitchfork, The Wire, Resident Advisor, Artforum, Bandcamp, and more, ‘Estradas (Versions)’ invites a diverse lineup of producers and DJs to deconstruct and reimagine the raw percussive language initially crafted by Magaletti and Nídia. Where the original Estradas channeled their distinct rhythmic sensibilities into a bold sonic statement, this collection pushes those ideas further - opening the material to radical transformation across tempo, genre, and mood.
The lineup features artists already popular at Newtone—such as DJ Plead, who has explored Lebanese sounds like shabi and dabke; Chinese-Canadian Yu Su; and Copenhagen’s Fergus Jones—alongside a borderless mix of unknown talents and artists from around the world. From Baile Funk and Brazilian DJ Anderson do Paraíso to BADSISTA; from Mexico’s ROSA PISTOLA presenta FREEBOT to the Lebanese band Cosmic Analog Ensemble; and from reggaeton to dembow with contemporary music—the DJ style of Kelman Duran, originally from the Dominican Republic and now based in L.A., is also fantastic.
