This is the first recording in 10 years by a large ensemble led by Copenhagen-based jazz guitarist and composer Jakob Bro, who has also released numerous works on ECM. We’ve obtained a limited quantity of the second pressing of this 2025 release. Be sure to check it out, along with his collaboration with Midori Takada.
Track List

A group of longtime friends—renowned musicians from Denmark and New York—have come together to record this album, featuring free improvisation on Side A and compositions by Jakob Bro on Side B. Following the “Trio” featuring Søren Kjærgaard, Jeppe Skovbakke, and Jesper Zeuthen, and solo performances by Kresten Osgood (d) and Andrew D’Angelo (bc, as), the album moves into “Tutti,” featuring the entire ensemble. While Side A feels like a laboratory where the lineup shifts moment by moment, Side B unfolds with five tracks carried by the soulful, gentle flow of Jakob Bro’s compositions. It also evokes the philosophy inherited from their mentor, drummer Paul Motian: “A piece of music takes on new life every time it is performed.” This is large-ensemble jazz that, while functioning as a collective, possesses a delicate sense of timing that seeks beauty in every single note. It is an ensemble made possible by a relationship forged over 20 years. (Original Japanese text by Adachi)
