ADRIAN SHERWOOD, among others, is well known for his collaborations with PARLIAMENT and FUNKADELIC—he’s an anachronistic Celtic funk warrior clad in armor, JESSE RAE—the sublime, rebellious pioneer of dub—has had his archival material from the period when he was immersed in audiovisual art finally released in a celebratory package! Kicking things off is the downtempo track “Ma Wee Lamb,” with its mellow, decadent mood—often aptly compared to the early “Grand Theft Auto” aesthetic—followed by the adult-oriented mid-tempo dance track “Sex Ma Room,” the NJS-style electro-funk “Time And It Makes Me,” and “God’s In Hollywood”—which features a unique collaboration with soprano singer NIKA—he crosses genres with intense individuality and a playful spirit. The quality of this work is far too high to be simply described as “eccentric outsider music”; it’s a collection of moody tracks that will leave you captivated by their Scottish-style eroticism.
