Mara TK, a graduate of the Red Bull Music Academy in Toronto, has collaborated not only with Electric Wire Hustle but also with Om'Mas Keith of Sa-Ra Creative Partners, Waajeed—a Detroit producer known for his collaborations with J Dilla—and Steve Spacek, among others, and has also contributed to works by Lord Echo.
This collaboration, which began with bases in the UK, Kenya, and Uganda, / community-based music platform Extra Soul Perception, this album—released in 2021—unfolds a series of downtempo/beatdown soul tracks with a touch of melancholy and wistfulness, featuring a delicate, refreshing, and somewhat wistful vocal tone set against a backdrop of soft, crystalline instrumentation. It’s a wonderful album with a charm that sinks deeper the more you listen. The opening track, “Fam Forgiveness”—featuring alien vocals, a beautiful falsetto, and a dark, introspective ambient soul sound—is also great. (Original Japanese text by COMPUMA)
