Joining the ranks of the illustrious lineup that has featured BOO WILLIAMS, KAI ALCÉ, LAWRENCE, JOEY ANDERSON, DJ NATURE, and others on the 〈SHORT ATTENTION〉 label is a new addition that more than holds its own: DJ AAKMAEL—a veteran of the U.S. underground scene who has consistently released masterpieces on numerous prestigious labels such as 〈CHURCH〉, 〈KOLOUR LTD〉, and 〈UPSTAIRS ASYLUM〉, and continues to produce to this day. “Free” (sample 1) sweetly blends piano, guitar, and rich tones with a Latin groove. From “Things Always Happen” (sample 2), where sentimental keys trace a low-end bassline, to “If You Believe” (sample 3), a jazzy track steeped in the melancholy of the trumpet—despite being club tracks, the quality is such that you’ll find yourself listening to them over and over again; all four tracks are fantastic.
