Dazzling... a fleeting, dreamlike world somewhere between folk and soft rock. On repeat! Originally released in 1971, this recording—which was available only as a limited-edition 7-inch single and lay dormant for 50 years—has been restored and remastered from the original master tape by L.A.-based Forager Records.

Forager Records was launched in Los Angeles in 2020 by record collector and designer Matthew Bruce and Sam Hirschfelder, who handles audio restoration and mastering. Their motto is direct dialogue with the artists themselves and their families, meticulous research, and official licensing. This release also includes liner notes by the two founding members. A representative work from the 2020s’ rediscovery scene has arrived.

A four-piece band formed in Grayling, a small town in Michigan, centered around two teenagers named Phil Stancil and Doug Slater. Rather than focusing on the hippie-esque dreaminess of the era, these eight simple yet beautiful tracks shine a light on young sensibilities shedding their pretenses to sing candidly about heartbreak, longing, alienation, and love. It even brings to mind the term “free soul.” A rare groove from the 2020s that can also be enjoyed as chill or ambient music. Let’s go about our day with the dazzling morning sunlight, coffee, and a touch of swagger. This is the kind of record you’ll want to listen to for years to come! It’s absolutely fantastic.
