At the 1980s Chicago underground club MUSIC BOX, legendary DJ Ron Hardy personally edited and heavily played this track, Since then, the Italo-style, funky Canadian disco track “Peaches & Prunes” has been passed down as a staple of the Ron Hardy Classics repertoire—and I’ve managed to get my hands on a reissue featuring the Ron Hardy Edit on the B-side!
The original is “Peaches & Prunes,” a track from the 1980 album *Just Be Yourself* by NIGHTLIFE UNLIMITED, a Canadian disco group active since the late ’70s. It’s a fantastic disco track that unfolds in a funky way, featuring a mutant bassline reminiscent of Italo disco. The B-side is a mad edit by Ron Hardy that takes it even further. By relentlessly looping the mid-song break, he’s created a masterpiece that will go down in edit history—one with a somewhat “ghetto” and raw charm! It’s rough around the edges, and the sound quality is a bit muffled, but that’s exactly what makes it so irresistible. This track was also used in the production of “Mustang 1,” which Theo Parrish released on a limited-edition white-label record in 2000.
