With its memorable introduction and children’s choir vocals, this timeless classic—still played repeatedly on the dance floor as a worship anthem by New York DJs like Danny Krivit, Nicky Siano, and James Murphy—is a true classic. This time, we’ve gotten our hands on an unofficial reissue featuring the rare Tony Humphries Mix!!

Recorded in 1982 at a church in Crown Heights, NYC, and reportedly distributed to parishioners, this is a seminal track that hints at the close relationship between gospel and disco. While there are various anecdotes surrounding this song, according to RBMA’s research, it was Tony Humphries—who was a resident DJ at Zanzibar at the time—who first popularized it. Discussions subsequently took place with the owner of Next Plateau Records, leading to the release of this record in ’85, featuring a mix by Tony Humphries. Above all, Side B features a rarely heard version that begins with a boogie-style bassline. The track unfolds into a danceable arrangement where the keyboard work really explodes as it progresses.
