[Back in Stock] A percussionist from the Argentine folklore scene. A compilation by Domingo Cura is out on EM RECORDS!
A compilation of recordings from 1971–77 by Domingo Cura, the genius percussionist of folclore! His sensibility was honed through improvisational sessions with cutting-edge artists such as Gato Barbieri, Astor Piazzolla, and Lito Nevia. Mastering the bombo, a traditional folklore percussion instrument, he created a sound that fused traditional rhythms with rock and jazz. Just as a revolution—evident in the work of Reuben Rada and Hugo Fattorusso/OPA within the candombe scene—was taking place, a similar revolution was unfolding in Argentine folklore. An astonishing sense of rhythm, attention to the acoustic quality of the sound, and a spiritual essence reminiscent of the mystery of the Andes. I had the pleasure of contributing to the liner notes. Please enjoy this wonderful collection of recordings!
