"Discipline 27-II," the acclaimed Afrocentric ode to the cosmos recorded around the same time as Sun Ra’s masterpiece *Space Is The Place*—which was originally released in 1972 on Sun Ra’s own label, El Saturn—is now officially reissued on vinyl with its original artwork. Wonderful. The new liner notes by Francis Gooding are also fantastic. The consistent, reliable sound quality and volume—including the heavyweight vinyl version—are a real treat.
The album’s title track, “Discipline 27-?” (sample 1)—which spans the entire B-side for 25 minutes and 29 seconds—invites you on a cosmic journey with its grand cosmic vision and the Arkestra’s quiet, soulful finale. The sheer sense of bliss it evokes is truly something else. Track A3, “Neptune” (sample 2), featuring June Tyson, the diva of the Sun Ra Arkestra, is also a gem. We’ve unearthed some stock from the 2017 Record Store Day commemorative release. Don’t miss out!
