Released on 99CHANTS, the Italian cultural and artistic platform whose themes revolve around environments inspired by ancient and medieval poetry. On the slopes of Mount Helicon in Greece, at 1,130 meters above sea level, a temporary outdoor recording studio was set up — a solar-powered "mobile & modular" structure running on renewable energy. Taking as its theme Mount Helicon, located in the Boeotia region of central Greece, and built on research into the ancient tales and legendary myths surrounding the mountain, the album "The Helicon Sessions" was an abstract electronics / field recording, natural-science, meditational and dramatic drone / experimental techno / dub / acid sonic trip. Here that work is deconstructed and rebuilt in an ambitious, boldly challenging collaboration between Greek electronic musician / pianist / lyricist Lena Platonos, Equations Collective member Yiorgos Konstantoulakis (aka Aphelion), and the maverick Lebanese producer / DJ and Morphine label head Rabih Beaini. Two tracks: Side A's "The Helicon Sessions (Lena Platonos x Yiorgos Konstantoulakis Reconstruction)" (sample 1), featuring Konstantoulakis' delicate, kinetic electronica drum machines and Platonos' Greek-language poetry; and Side B's "The Helicon Sessions (Rabih Beaini Deconstruction)" (sample 2), a powerhouse cut built from a TR-808 and outboard gear, inspired by rituals of West Java, Indonesia, that gradually heats up into intense, hand-played minimal percussive electronics ascension.
